Pic of the Day: Gilbert Arenas suspended in disbelief

Washington Wizard’s guard Gilbert Arenas was suspended indefinitely today without pay by David Stern.

The suspension comes in a Christmas Eve argument over a gambling debt. Areans and teammate Javaris Crittenton pulled guns on each other when Arenas didn’t make good on a lost bet.

Stern, the NBA’s commissioner, determined the star guard’s behavior made him “not currently fit to take the court.”

After the incident, Arenas said that he had brought the gun into the locker room as a “misguided effort to play a joke.”

And then the straw that finally broke Stern’s back was during yesterday’s game between the Wizards and the 76ers. Before the start of the game, Arenas was photographed mocking the controversy (see image below) by pointing his index fingers at his teammates as if they were guns.

Stern warned that the former All-Star’s conduct will “ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse.” Arenas and the player association will likely appeal the suspension.

I’m sure Arenas isn’t laughing now – no one is.
