July 3rd will be the date UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar will return to the Octagon following a lengthy lay off due to illness to defend the strap against the winner of last nights UFC interim heavyweight title match up, Shane Carwin.
The announcement was made following UFC 111 last night at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ by UFC President Dana White at the post fight press conference.
Carwin put the stamp on Frank Mir in the first round of their semi main event tilt, shattering any dream Mir may have had of getting another fight against Lesnar. Carwin peppered Mir with unanswered shots on his way to the interim gold and a date with Lesnar in the summer.
Lesnar and Carwin were supposed to fight at UFC 106 last year but Lesnar was shelfed due to a stomach problem that early on, had some reports suggesting Lesnar's career may be in jeopardy.
UFC 116 in expeceted to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
