'Diff'rent Strokes' star Gary Coleman dies

By JENNIFER DOBNER, Associated Press Writer

PROVO, Utah – Gary Coleman, the child star of the smash 1970s TV sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" whose later career was marred by medical and legal problems, has died after suffering an intercranial hemorrhage. He was 42.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Janet Frank says life support was terminated and Coleman died at 12:05 p.m. MDT.

Coleman, with his sparkling eyes and perfect comic timing, became a star after "Diff'rent Strokes" debuted in 1978. He played the younger brother in a pair of African-American siblings adopted by a wealthy white man.

His popularity faded when the show ended after six seasons on NBC and two on ABC.

He suffered continuing ill health from the kidney disease that stunted his growth and had a host of legal problems in recent years. —AP

Is the Krista-Jinkee match far from over?

MANILA, Philippines--Could it be true that Krista Ranillo allegedly told a friend in the United States: “Ubos na naman pera ni Manny pag-uwi niya kay Jinkee kasi nag-shopping kami sa Hermes at binigyan niya ako ng boutique dito.”

A distant relative of Krista tipped me off about it. Krista and Manny will surely deny this.

Pacman’s boxing matches only have 12 rounds. But it seems Team Krista and Team Jinkee will slug it out till eternity. If ever Krista gets knocked up, will that knock out Jinkee?

PEP: Rachelle Ann Go neither confirms nor denies reported transfer to Party Pilipinas

After Mark Bautista, another Viva talent is reportedly joining GMA-7's new musical-variety show Party Pilipinas.

According to a source, who is associated with Viva Entertainment, singer Rachelle Ann Go will become a mainstay of Party Pilipinas after her contract with ABS-CBN musical-variety show ASAP XV expires on April 4.

The source also said to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that ABS-CBN execs allegedly agreed to let go of Mark if Rachelle stays in ASAP. The Kapamilya network reportedly wants to keep Rachelle but a "generous offer" by GMA-7 "closed the deal" for the female singer.

PEP managing editor Karen Pagsolingan sent a text message to Ms. Veronique del Rosario, general manager of Viva Artists Agency (VAA), earlier this afternoon to confirm this report. But at press time, she has yet to reply.

Rachelle, on the other hand, said in an entertainment blog site that she has yet to hear the news about her supposed transfer. The singer added that Viva has not told her anything yet.

In her Twitter account, Rachelle neither confirmed nor denied the report that she'll be moving to GMA-7 and Party Pilipinas. In her entry last April 2, she said: "Sa lahat po ng nagtatanung... Hindi ko pa po alam sa Viva kung anung kaganapan...Mangyayari ang dapat mangyari...lets not worry."

Rachelle actually began her TV career on GMA-7. She was the grand winner in the Search For A Star (2004), a singing contest co-produced by GMA-7 and Viva Entertainment hosted by Regine Velasquez. She had a brief stint in the defunct SOP before moving to ASAP, along with fellow Viva artists Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis, and Mark Bautista.

U.S. radioman Adam Carolla bashes Manny Pacquiao and entire Filipino people

U.S. based radioman Adam Carolla, who stars on his own radio podcast, faces big trouble as he bashes Filipino pride Manny Pacquiao and the entire Filipino people.

Adam Carollla calls Manny Pacuiao a fucking idiot and advised the Filipino nation to get a fucking life and not only settle on stories revolving on Manny Pacquiao.

To add insult to injury, Adam Carolla implied that the Philippines is a country of whores, prostitutes, and sex workers when he mentioned that Philippines has no other things to brag about except from Manny Pacquiao and the country’s sex stories.

Ricky Martin Comes Out of the Closet

After years of speculation over his sexual orientation, Ricky Martin has come out of the closet in a posting on his official website (via TMZ). In a lengthy note to his fans published in Spanish and English, Martin says writing his memoirs got him “very close to my truth” and that hiding his sexuality any longer would “indirectly diminish the glow that my kids here born with,” referring to his twin sons, who were born in 2008 to a surrogate mother.

“These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn’t even know existed,” he writes, addressing inevitable questions about why he didn’t reveal his sexuality earlier.

In an August 1999 Rolling Stone cover story, Martin spoke about past loves and rumors that he wasn’t straight:

You know, the bigger you get, the more people talk about you. You’ve been frank about saying your music appeals to everybody, men and women. Maybe as a result of that there’ve been some rumors flying around about your sexuality.
Well, this is show business. It’s a lot of fantasy. You can fantasize whatever you want to be. You can fantasize however you want to [laughs]. Go for it. Be free about it. I’m not too concerned with what people say about me. You can think whatever you want. I know what I am, my beliefs, what I like and don’t like. As I just said, I have the need someday to have a family. And that’s something I’m going to go for. The people I care about know me. I’m happy.

Martin also told RS about a past girlfriend named Rebecca: “I need a woman who really knows how to take care of herself. She has a lot of class, and she’s brilliant, which turns me on. Rebecca is a very talented, focused woman who knows what she wants. The mother of my kids [laughs].”

The singer wraps today’s news post pride and relief. “Writing this is a solid step towards my inner peace and vital part of my evolution,” he writes. “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.”

Son of actor Cesar Montano found dead in QC home

A 23-year-old son of actor-politician Cesar Montano was found dead in his house in Quezon City early Friday, in what police said was an apparent suicide.

Quezon City police deputy for operations Senior Superintendent Audie Arroyo said Christian Angelo Montano died from a gunshot wound in the head.

"Meron po, confirmed. Tinawagan ng Station 6, meron talaga na-receive na report. Anak ito ni Cesar Montano, Christian Angelo, 23 years old (Yes, it's confirmed, based on a report from our police station 6. The victim is the son of Cesar Montano, Christian Angelo, 23 years old)," Arroyo said in an interview on dwIZ radio.

The elder Montano is running for governor of Bohol province under the Liberal Party in the May 10 elections. He lost in the 2007 senatorial polls.

Citing initial reports reaching him, Arroyo said they received a call from Montano's household at 5:49 a.m.

Minutes later, a police team reached the house and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head.

"Nakita nila may tama sa ulo ang bata (The team saw the victim with a gunshot wound to the head)," Arroyo said.

"Ang security guard, sabi may nagpakatiwakal (The security guard at the house said someone tried to kill himself)," he added.

A separate report by dzBB radio's Manny Vargas said the younger Montano was declared dead on arrival at the General Malvar Hospital in Quezon City.

Dr. Ed Antonio of the hospital's emergency room said the victim sustained a gunshot wound in the right temple, and an exit wound at the back of the head. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV

Kris Aquino: I can leave the Philippines if Noynoy wins

Ruffa Gutierrez walks out of showbiz talk show

Actress/TV host Ruffa Gutierrez on Sunday walked out of a showbiz talk show she was co-hosting reportedly upon the prodding of her mother and manager, Annabelle Rama.

Interviewed by Showbiz Central minutes after the walkout, Rama admitted that she asked Ruffa to leave the live set of ABS-CBN’s The Buzz due to the alleged hostile treatment her daughter was getting from co-host Kris Aquino.

“Ruffa, alam kong addict ka sa trabaho. Pero pag sa trabaho mo naman, kapag ginaganon-ganon ka ng mga kasama mo, hindi na tama yung ganyan. Kaya tama na pinaalis ko siya [at] mabuti na nakinig ka sa nanay mo," Rama told Showbiz Central host Pia Guanio.

(Ruffa, I know that you’re a workaholic. But please don’t allow your workmates to abuse you. That’s not right. It’s only proper that I pulled you out from the show, and it’s good that you obeyed your mother.)

GMA News tried contacting Kris Aquino, but she refused to issue an official statement as of posting time. In her Twitter account (@itsmekrisaquino), she said her comment “was said with affection and a sense of fun."

Rama said she informed ABS-CBN bosses about her decision to pull out Ruffa from the show. She also appealed to the public not to vote for Kris’ brother, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III, who is running for president in the May 10 elections.

“Kaya ako'y nananawagan sa taumbayan na huwag niyong iboto si Noynoy, kasi hindi pa nga nananalo si Noynoy ay ang yabang-yabang na ni Kris. Akala mo siya na ang may-ari ng showbiz," she said.

(I urge the public not to vote for Noynoy because he’s still only a candidate and yet his sister already acts as if she owns showbiz.)

Kris, in her Twitter account, cried foul over Rama’s statement against her brother. “If they will choose to lambaste my brother who wasn’t even on the Buzz, makes me wonder what the true agenda is - para siraan si Noy (to ruin Noy’s reputation)?"

She said she believes Filipino voters “are intelligent and will continue supporting Noy because he is the best man for the job." - KBK, GMANews.TV

SOURCE: GMANEWS.TV

Bagama’t natapos na ang latest na isyu nilang mag-asawa, sabi lamang ni Kris, “It’s a work in progress." - Saksi/FVI, GMANews.TV

‘Magpasikat’ hangs by a thread

ABS-CBN faces yet another showdown with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) over “Magpasikat” which the latter mulls suspending like its predecessor, “Showtime.”

During the preliminary hearing with the network on Jan. 14, the MTRCB said that it will suspend “Magpasikat” if the investigation they mounted proves that it is “one and the same” show as “Showtime.”

"We will see. Aalamin pa ng committee kung totoo nga," Atty. Paulino Cases Jr., head of the hearing committee, told “TV Patrol World.”

ABS-CBN lawyer Maxim Uy argued that the two shows cannot be deemed identical based merely on the similarities in their hosts and staff.

"Ang basehan nitong mosyon ng MTRCB ay ang sabi nila dahil pareho daw ang mga hosts at bukod din doon, pareho ang mga production staff. Siguro naman ho alam natin na hindi dahil pareho ang mga host at pareho ang production staff, ang ibig sabihin ay pareho na ang programa," Uy said.

The subject that was brought up during the hearing puzzled ABS-CBN Management and its counsels. ABS-CBN said they were called for the investigation of guest judge Rosanna Roces’ remarks against comedian Vice Ganda during the Jan. 4 episode of “Showtime”---and not Roces’ remarks against teachers on the show’s Jan. 7 episode.

ABS-CBN’s legal counsel Miguel Silos said: "The MTRCB says that... the hearing is [supposedly] on a certain subject [yet] we are surprised that the prosecution brings up an all together different subject.”

It is recalled that Roces’ hurled vulgarities against Vice Ganda on the Jan. 4 episode when he spilled the beans on her romantic affairs.

Chairman Consoliza Laguardia said in an interview on the same news program, Jan. 12, that she, through a letter dated Jan. 5, directed “Showtime's” management to “file their comment within three days why no preventive suspension should be issued.”

Rosanna’s second offense prompted the Board to finally issue on Jan. 11, the 20-day suspension order for “Showtime” in order to prevent further violation of the law.

Section 3c of Presidential Decree No. 1986 states that the MTRCB has the power to prevent the airing of a program’s segments or scenes that are “immoral, indecent, contrary to law and/or good customs, injurious to the prestige of the country or its people.”

The Kapamilya network promptly filed a petition before the Court of Appeals (COA) the next day, asking for the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO), as well as a writ of preliminary injunction to halt the suspension. ABS-CBN also asked COA for the issuance of the writ of certiorari for the permanence of the said injunction.

In an official statement dated Jan. 12, ABS-CBN questioned the suspension order since “Showtime” employed self-regulation by removing Rosanna from the panel of guest judges beginning Jan. 8.

Rosanna later thanked the station for giving her the opportunity to apologize on yet another hot topic involving her.

"Nagpapasalamat ako sa ABS-CBN dahil binigyan nila ako ng pagkakataong humingi ng paumanhin sa aking naging pahayag sa ‘Showtime.’ Naramdaman kong nakahanap ako ng tunay na kapamilya sa ABS-CBN dahil hindi nila ako iniwan sa ere. Kung sa ibang network, gaya ng naranasan ko noon, ay iniwan ako at pinabayaang magpaliwanag ng mag-isa," her message read on “TV Patrol.”

The next hearing is scheduled on Jan. 26.
